“It is not the magnitude of our actions but the sincerity behind them that makes a difference”
Camy is a passionate multidisciplinary artist with a strong belief in community spirit, who has been living in Ang Mo Kio for 20 years. Camy regularly volunteers at Allkin Community @ Ang Mo Kio 643, a space run by Allkin Singapore. He uses art as a medium to bring people together and create opportunities for bonding amongst residents.
During an art jamming session at Cheng San Community Club, Camy’s talent in the arts were recognised and he was invited to paint several murals around the Yio Chu Kang neighbourhood. He draws inspiration from fellow residents to aid in designing his murals, which have brought life to the community and encouraged conversations between neighbours. He has also worked with APSN Chaoyang School to run art workshops to engage students with special needs.
Tapping on his experiences in the arts, Camy creates unique opportunities to nurture a Kampong spirit in his neighbourhood. He has integrated puppets and mascots in his storytelling sessions for children at Allkin Community @ Ang Mo Kio 643 to encourage a love for reading. With many years of experience in crochet since he was 9 years old, he has worked with Allkin Singapore to run crochet workshops around Singapore. Drawing on his skills in hairdressing, Camy regularly gives back to the community by volunteering around his neighbourhood to give free haircuts to the elderly.
