Nazurah, a final-year student from ITE College East, shares her reflection about her first internship experience at Skillseed.
It was my first time entering the working world. Without any prior experience or expectations, I was worried and afraid of how I would get along with the people at Skillseed. However, from the moment I arrived at the office, I felt welcomed and comforted by the warmth and respect of my colleagues. I would soon come to realise that my concerns were unfounded and I would have a fulfilling internship experience at Skillseed.
As time went by and I adapted to the working environment at Skillseed, eventually I got used to my role as the Administration & Programmes Intern. I helped to plan our quarterly team bonding activities, took care of staff welfare and assisted with logistics and administrative work. Some of the team bonding activities that I planned included our Chinese New Year lunch with halal Lo Hei, hiking along the Rail Corridor and organising board games at our end of year team retreat. Whenever I prepared for an event or filled up our staff pantry with snacks, the happiness and smiles from my colleagues made me feel valued, which made all my efforts worthwhile.

As part of my administrative work, I was involved in packing logistics and preparing wireless audio tour devices for Skillseedβs upcoming programmes and trainings. For example, we use these wireless audio tour devices for our Resilience Trails, because they ensure that our participants are able to hear our Community Guides and Skillseed facilitators clearly while they walk around the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood.
Besides that, I also supported the organisationβs marketing and recruitment efforts. I designed posters, videos and posted job advertisements on different job platforms. While designing posters for Skillseed, I learnt that it was important to keep to a specific colour theme and fonts that represent Skillseedβs brand identity. This ensures brand and visual consistency, so that our audience can recognise our marketing collaterals and social media posts at a glance!
During my internship in Skillseed, I made some mistakes along the way but Iβm grateful to my supervisors and colleagues who gave me advice and suggestions to help me improve my work. They patiently guided me in tasks that I was unsure of and encouraged me to clarify any questions I had. From this internship experience, I learnt that it is important for first timers who are entering the workforce to be open-minded to learn, broaden their knowledge and gain experience. This positive learning attitude will take you far in your internship journey to have a fulfilling work experience.
